The University of Limerick (UL) announces the launch of a new Figshare-powered Institutional repository.
Founded in 1972 as the National Institute for Higher Education, Limerick, and a university since 1989, UL is an independent, internationally-focused university with a proud record of innovation in education and excellence in research and scholarship.
Having migrated from a DSpace-powered repository, historic content including files, metadata, and usage statistics were migrated, ensuring no loss of information and that content is available long-term.
This new repository, available at https://researchrepository.ul.ie/, will make researchers’ and their collaborators’ publications and research data publicly available in one place, providing separate, custom-branded spaces for books, conference contributions, journal contributions, theses, and more including spaces for various faculties and the Kemmy Business School.
Content published in this new repository will benefit from Handles or Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) for citing and sharing publicly and openly, while also offering controlled access options where appropriate. Researchers will also benefit from Figshare’s Sherpa Romeo integration, which provides guidance on publishers’ policies on open access.
“We’re delighted to work with the University of Limerick to build upon their commitment to open scholarship and collaboration. We’re excited to welcome them to the community of Figshare users and we’re looking forward to bettering scholarly dissemination together,” said Figshare Founder and CEO Mark Hahnel.
The UL Library has provided guides for researchers depositing content into the repository including best practices, FAQs, and guidance on which license is most appropriate.
More information on UL’s research repository is available at https://libguides.ul.ie/ResearchRepository.
