The State of Open Data 2026: What happens to research data after it's shared?
The 2026 State of Open Data report, from Figshare, Digital Science and Springer Nature, moves beyond attitudes to behaviour - analysing how shared data is actually being found, cited and reused across the published literature.
The report will explore:
- Whether shared data is being reused, and by whom
- What makes some datasets discoverable and others effectively invisible
- Where policy has changed practice, and where it hasn't
- What the next phase of open data needs to deliver
The report will be released in late 2026.
