Figshare, a leading provider of institutional repository infrastructure that supports open research, is pleased to announce that Curtin University has chosen Figshare as its new institutional repository platform to store, showcase and manage its research outputs.
Curtin – a world-ranked, global university recognized for industry-connected programs and its strong research focus – has chosen Figshare as its new institutional repository platform as part of a wider research infrastructure modernization project. The team wanted to make it easier for researchers to deposit, manage and publish all types of research outputs in a more modern and effective way and create proficient workflows to support the research process.
Curtin also wanted to drive the discoverability of its research outputs as part of its overall enhancement of its research management infrastructure. In addition to the fact that outputs shared in Figshare are highly discoverable owing to their robust metadata, the interoperability between Figshare and Symplectic Elements (the research information management system in place at Curtin), means that research discoverability will be further driven via Curtin’s Symplectic Elements Discovery profiles.
Kylie Percival, University Librarian of Curtin University, said: “Curtin researchers produce a diverse range of research and scholarly content. We selected Figshare as our institutional repository platform because it provides an attractive and intuitive interface with advanced functionalities to showcase the diverse outputs and demonstrate our research impact. Integrated with Symplectic Elements and the ability to assign a Digital Object Identifier enables us to provide a more seamless experience to researchers, ensuring persistent identification of our scholarly works.”
Mark Hahnel, Figshare Founder and Digital Science’s VP of Open Research, said: “I’m excited to see another leading Australian University join the Figshare community. Curtin’s strong research focus means that I’m really looking forward to seeing the breadth of research outputs shared in their new institutional repository. It’s also always great to see another institution take advantage of the interoperability and complementary functionality of Figshare and Symplectic Elements when the platforms are used together – driving research discoverability and prioritizing open research best practice.”
